I’m now a few weeks into a fairly swanky new (part time) job. I have taken over from the fabulous Kim Plowright in leading the Creative Producing for Digital Platforms (CPDP) course at the National Film & Television School (NFTS). Luckily for me, Kim is continuing to teach on the course, which makes my life very much easier.

I have six very intelligent & energetic students who are tackling a series of briefs covering as many aspects of cross platform creativity and production as we can shoehorn into a year.
Visiting speakers so far have included former course leader Louise Brown, currently working at Wellcome, Sarah Ellis of the RSC, Matt Adams of Blast Theory, Matt Locke of Storythings, Hilary Knight of Tate – and that’s just in the first two weeks on the first module – Creative Technology & The Arts.
In the coming months we’re going to cover Short Form Video, Digital Documentary, Online Factual & Campaigning, Games & Play, Scripted Storytelling, Entertainment Formats & Live Events and much much more!
I’m already realising, too, that the NFTS is stuffed full of interesting talented people and loads and loads of toys in terms of high tech studios, cameras, lights, mics, props, elaborate sets, animations suites, games studios etc, so one of the key tasks for me is to try and encourage interdisciplinary work, with students from different courses collaborating on ideas, and expert tutors from many fields sharing their knowledge and experience.
As you can tell from the way I’m describing this, it’s a very stimulating environment. If you fancy the idea of helping me develop my plans for the course by contributing in some way, I’d love to hear from you.
I am keen to get as many industry experts and digital practitioners as possible to come and talk to my students and set them challenges in terms of project briefs or short exercises. And I’m always on the look out for relevant case studies and site visits that the students could benefit from.
This could be your chance to meet the next generation of leading-edge digital producers and to work with them before they get lured away by your rivals. 😉
Working at NFTS is going to be a great way for me to keep in touch with emerging trends and new crossplatform projects. So don’t forget that I am still available (part time) as a freelance digital writer and crossplatform content consultant.
Get in touch if you think there’s anything I could be helpful with in terms of ideas generation, project scoping, content development, scriptwriting, proposal writing & project presentation, digital strategy or new media training.
