Day 1 of Incubation and I’m feeling extremely nervous about presenting Oldton in front of a host of people who really know what they’re talking about when it comes to digital writing.
To be part of the first session of the first day is always nerve-wracking because you feel in some way that you’re responsible for setting the tone. The fact that Ted Nelson and Alan Sondheim were both on after me didn’t exactly ease my mind.
I did at least have some new material to prove I haven’t been sitting here doing nothing. I brought along the paper version of my map, and then showed a little demo about how this map can become the backs of my Oldton playing cards.
Audience feedback was very positive, but it’s clear that my talk is a lot clearer and more entertaining than the site is. I have big issues to solve about navigation and making sure the work can speak for itself, without me present. This happens a lot with digital works, I’m afraid: the artist’s commentary is far better than the work itself.
